It has taken me some time to wipe away the tears and come to terms with the fact that he has passed. Unless you have been living under a rock.... you know all to well who I am referring to. The truth is that Michael Jackson is the cd of my life. I can't remember a time when his voice was not in the background of my most memorable moments, of every era of my existence. From Ben and Dancing machine to Thriller and Bad, and whether you discovered him as a child or just recently, Michael Jackson inspired you thru his music and moves and gave you a sense of greatness amongst us. Thru his lyrics you got a good sense of who he was, how he felt and the kind of person he was.
When the news first broke and the shock wore off I was angry. Angry because I knew that he had been broken. Because here was this amazing talent, this extraordinary human being and people just could not let him be.
It's funny how you always hear how artists have a responsibility to their fans and the general public but what about the responsibility that we have to our most talented and gifted? Shouldn't we be protecting, nourishing and cradling them?
In my opinion we are all blessed and the fact that we are here is testament to that, but some people are truly gifted. Michael Jackson was one and we as people should have cherished and protected that with everything we have but sadly we did not and sadly this goes on everyday with other children and adults in our society that are also gifted, talented and different. Why? Because what we can't define, understand or match, we tend to destroy.... and the justification is, well look what he turned into.
He turned into the product of abuse which started when he was a child at the hands of the first ones that were supposed to have been protecting him and continued on with the emotional and mental abuse he received from the general public. And all because he was special, gifted. Abuse is a venom that slowly kills and the death is the most painful because most people die way before their bodies give in. Think about how many people pass you by on a daily basis that look like him in the inside? Imagine if your fiscal appearance changed with every abuse you endured. How would you look? If you had the resources, would you try to erase what (you) saw "in the mirror"?
One thing is certain we have to "make a change".
The man is gone... but the legacy lives on, not only in the music and moves but the message he left behind... that it starts with each individual.
Think before you strike... verbally, fiscally and otherwise. You could be destroying the spirit of someone with the power to change the world.
It is very sad to see the images pouring in from all over the world and I mean ALL OVER THE WORLD!!!! It is sad because I don't think he knew how many people loved him, how many people he touched and the power he had. But mostly it's sad for us. That we did not protect that enormous treasure. From Chile to Germany from Peru to India the vigils and tears are a sight to be remembered.
Perhaps he now sees... we can only hope so.
